THE HISTORY OF THE RED COW
Chrishall's heritage stretches back to the Domesday Book, with Anglo-Saxon and Roman discoveries reflecting its deep-rooted past. The Red Cow itself dates to Plantagenet times, standing at the heart of the village's history.
Over the years, it has evolved from a traditional village inn into a well-loved restaurant known for quality dining, while carefully preserving its historic character. Since reopening in January 2019, we've combined modern comfort with timeless charm to create a welcoming space where great food and local heritage come together.
First visit to the Red Cow and it didn't disappoint. Pre booked a table for 4. Quick service for food and drinks and a nice menu choice including for vegetarian. Food was very tasty and decent sized portions.
Enjoyed it so much we have booked a family Christmas lunch there a couple of weeks before Christmas.
We made a stopover for lunch at The Red Cow. It is a true gem and a proper gastropub with delicious food. One of the best lunch experiences we had recently. There were also great options for kids and overall food was fantastic.
I'd like to visit again when we are in the area.
I came with my family who travelled from Italy to visit and was not sure which pub to take them too. This place was an absolutely gorgeous restaurant with picturesque views, delicious food with kind and genuine service.
Even the locals were friendly! The camembert cheese and fish and chips were my favourite.
